1. What is a student Visa?
Depending on the purpose of the visit, India offers various kinds of visas. Student Visa is specifically for students wanting to come to India for education purposes. Generally, Student Visas are issued for the duration of the academic course of study or for a period of five years whichever is less, on the basis of letters of admission from Universities/recognized colleges or educational institutions in India. However, it is the discretion of the Indian High Commission to decide the duration of the Student Visa. The children of NRIs and PIOs cardholders need not procure a Student Visa. Other international students need Student Visa or Research Visa for Doctoral level courses.
2. What are the prerequisites for procuring a Student Visa?
If you are coming as a self-financing student, you need to produce confirmed letters of admission (Acceptance letter) from CMR University.
3. Can I change my University/Institution after coming to India?
No, it is not allowed to change the University/College. You need to mention the name of the Institute while applying for the visa, which is then mentioned on the visa. A request for a change of university or institution subsequently made cannot be considered. In this case, you would be required to go back to your home country and apply for a new visa.
4. Can I get my Tourist Visa converted to a Student Visa?
If you come to India on a Tourist or any other type of Visa, you cannot get that Visa changed to Student Visa. According to Government regulations, if an international student coming to India on a Tourist or any other type of Visa (except a Student Visa), obtains admission into a university or any institution in India, the student will be required to return to his/her home country and obtain a new visa (i.e. the Student Visa) from the Indian mission there.
5. How much is the Student Visa fee?
The Student Visa fee depends on the nationality of the passport holder and the type/duration of the visa applied. This fee is payable in the local currency as well. Please check with the Indian embassy in your country for the exact visa fee.
6. What are the formalities that international students should do on arrival?
International students holding a Student Visa of more than 180 days are required to register themselves with the local Foreigners Regional Registration Officer (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival.
7. What is FRRO registration and how we can register?
It is mandatory for all international students to register themselves with the local FRRO, within 14 days of their arrival in India (arrival date mentioned on the Visa), from the 15th day late registration fee will be charged by FRRO Office. The student has to register him/herself by using the link-> http://indianfrro.gov.in/frro.

8. What are the formalities if I just want to visit my home country during my vacation?
You must have a valid Indian visa for visiting back to your country. In case your visa has expired then you first need to apply for the renewal of your Visa from the FRRO office. Once you have a valid visa then you can apply for the return exit permit online and collect it from the FRRO office in Bangalore. It is very important that you carry the exit permit as this is required to be produced at the airport immigration.
9. When I want to leave the university after the completion of the program then what are the formalities?
You must complete the No–Dues formalities at the university and you must check and ensure that you don’t have any pending courses that are required for the award of the degree. Apply for transcripts, migration certificate, provisional degree, and character certificate, and collect your original documents which you submitted at the time of admission.
Once you have a valid visa then you can apply for the exit permit online and collect it from the FRRO office in Bangalore. It is very important that you carry the exit permit as this is required to be produced at the airport immigration. In case your visa has expired then you first need to apply for the renewal of your Visa from the FRRO office.
10. What if the Visa given to me is a single-entry visa and when I go back to my home country then do, I need to apply for the visa again?
Yes, if it is a single-entry visa and you return home then you need to apply for a fresh Visa at the Indian High Commission in your home country. Please ensure that you carry your transcript and your bonafide student certificate from the university before leaving, as this would be required and needs to be submitted at the time of visa application.
11. Is it mandatory to attend the Induction program?
Yes, CMRU welcomes you as a new member of the CMR family and wishes that you should get the complete information about your University, its education system, examination system, policies, disciplines, local setup and governance, Indian culture and heritage, etc. right at the time of your joining. We strongly recommend that you should definitely attend the induction program.
12. What are the timings of classes at CMR University?
Classes are usually conducted between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. However, please note that extra classes might also be conducted as per the requirement of the course.
13. How often can a student approach a professor or mentor to clarify his/her doubts?
Apart from the academic sessions, students are free to approach professors for one-on-one sessions on areas of difficulty for all subjects. If the professor should be unavailable during a particular period, their Mentor will help students with all their queries as well as work with them for a longer period to overcome any challenges if they should need assistance.
14. Should students bring their own laptops?
Students must carry their own laptops to campus when they move in. Almost all courses require constant use of laptops in the form of preparation for assignments, exams, or assignments.
15. Is there any provision for concession or Scholarship?
The University provides merit-based scholarships and continuation of scholarship is as per the terms and conditions of the University i.e. regularity in attendance, progress, good character, and conduct.
16. How can I check whether I am eligible for the opted program?
To check the minimum eligibility requirement for admission in a particular program, the student has to share his/her 10th and 12th grade or ‘O’ and ‘A’ level marks-card with our international admission team. The team will check the student’s eligibility and communicate the same to the student over email within 24 hours.
17. What document is to be shared in case students’ result is still awaited?
In such cases where the result is not declared or you did not get your transcript, you should share your other previous transcripts with your national ID. You should submit your final result at the time of reporting at the University.
18. How to remit the fee?
A student can pay either by cash at the university accounts counter or online (Through our ERP portal)
19. What is an acceptance letter?
After the successful submission of the provisional Registration fee, University will issue you Acceptance Letter with which you can apply for a student visa at the nearest Indian Embassy/Consulate.
An acceptance letter includes details about:
- Program Name and Session.
- The program fee per year.
- The Examination Fee.
- Scholarship (if applicable)
- Other useful information for students
20. How will I be informed if my admission is done?
The university will issue a bonafide letter which is the confirmation of your admission at CMR University for the current academic year.
